SLU LAW GRAD, KAPATIRAN PARTY'S 2010 PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE

John Carlos De Los Reyes
Bachelors of Law, 2005

The Ang Kapatiran Party (AKP), a national political party accredited by the Commission on Elections, named Olongapo City Councilor John Carlos “JC” de los Reyes as its presidential candidate for 2010. JC, who will turn 40 on February 14 next year, was unanimously selected by the Party’s national electoral committee from among 37 names/personalities nominated by both Party members and the general public.

JC delos Reyes has a degree in Theology from the Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio, USA, a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of the Philippines, and a Law degree from St. Louis University in Baguio City. He obtained his primary and secondary education from the Ateneo de Manila and De La Salle – Zobel, respectively. He is married to Dunia Valenzuela. They have three children.

He is lead animator of Solidarity Philippines, a movement that pro-actively advances the social justice agenda of the Church. He is also executive director of Breaking the Yoke of Poverty Foundation, which oversees the Jubilee Homes for the Poor, a housing project for 60 families in Olongapo City.

As human rights advocate, he has raised issues on extrajudicial killings. He has openly criticized Hanjin in Subic over worker’s rights violations, urging government to prioritize the dignity of the Filipino worker.

He has opposed the reproductive health code, saying it is a dictated and imperialist law that muddles women’s rights. He is also against the establishment of Ocean 9 Casino in Subic and the commissioning of the Bataan Nuclear Plant.

He has been an organizer of Kapatiran sa Pangkalahatang Kabutihan (KPK) as early as 1998 and worked for the Comelec accreditation of AKP in 2004. He was the lone winner of AKP in 2007 when the Party fielded 30 candidates for national and local positions.

AKP is confident that principle- and platform-based politics, personified by JC delos Reyes, will destroy the paradigm of big-money and popularity politics. The nation, with the youth at the forefront, will experience a new and promising beginning - asserting the Party’s call for prophetic politics of personal and social transformation.

The open nomination system will also be adopted for the Party’s subsequent search for candidates for vice president, senators, and other local elective positions, details of which will be announced soon.

She has a bachelor's degree from Saint Louis University in Baguio City, Philippines, and currently works in Novo in Kalundborg, and does her writing during weekends.

The fantasy novel's main character, Victor, should enjoy a carefree life, but from an early age, he finds himself very busy. He must learn complex magic and martial arts, and is taught how to live in a human world.

It's all because his parents, King Godfred and Queen Magenta know of a curse, which is casted on the son upon his birth by a dark, hooded figure with eyes that burns like coal. On his thirteenth birthday, their beloved son will leave the fantasy kingdom of Solandia, loose his mortality and live with humans.

In order to be free from the spell, Victor must retrieve the mystical sun orb, a magical power, which has fell in the hands of the dark, hooded figure. Challenging him breaks out war between the forces of light and darkness. The good fairies against the bad fairies.

A Picture to Launch a Centenary

Artist or otherwise, SLU invites everyone to "explore the realms of Christian Spirit, Creativity, Competence and Social Involvement" and win something.

Details on the SLU CENTENNIAL poster making contest, click here.

Songs Too

What's a party without music. Well, more like a song. A Centennial Song
that is.

LIGHT OF THE NORTH,
LIGHT THAT TRANSFORMS
(Lyrics: Mel Pablico/Music: Bing Pablico)

liten to the song at SLU CENTENNIAL SONG

From a small beginning came
The little seed has fully grown
Now look at what you’ve become
A sturdy tree on its own

It was just one little spark
Now the flame is bright as day
Without knowledge, all is dark
But with your light we see the way

Refrain:

SLU, Light of the North
Shine through all directions
The wisdom you bring forth
Builds, inspires and reforms
SLU, Light of the North
A hundred years now
Through all the times
Continue to glow
Light that transforms!

As you continue with your mission
To touch more lives as you envision
Competence, creativity
You develop in me

Social involvement, Christian spirit
Are imbued within my heart
The future is truly bright
For I shine with such great light

(Repeat Refrain)

Bridge:

As I soar to greater heights
Your wisdom I will bring
The mission of your light
I will keep burning deep within

Through the next years that will pass
I promise to make you proud
With your values by my side
I will transform other lives!

(Repeat Refrain except last line 2x)

Shine forevermore
Through all the times
Continue to glow
Light that transforms…
Light that transforms!

A Prayer, But Ofcourse

No, we're not raising brows here. It is a Catholic university after all.

There was a competition, Lourdusamy, Nambi Spiridiya, Special BS Biology, SLU-ICM wrote the winning supplication.

The SLU 2011 Centennial Prayer

God, source of holiness and light, we thank you for your bountiful blessings poured on SLU during the past hundred years, enabling it to be the “Light of the North” through its mission of education.

As we step into the next century to meet the challenges of our time, transform us by your light of faith and love. Equip us with your grace and infuse new life and hope in us and in what we do, so we can transform ourselves and our society. We make this prayer through the intercession of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Amen

Amen.
